Learn to Salsa

We are very happy to bring you some great news for the South West, and UK, Salsa scene.

Recently Salsa Montuno UK approached Abanico Salsa with a view to joining forces.  After some negotiation and working out of details we are very pleased to announce that Salsa Montuno has now joined the Abanico Salsa team.

During the transition period all classes will remain unaffected - however, in time, you will notice a rebranding of the Salsa Montuno classes across to Abanico Salsa.  As a result of this transition all of the new Abanico Salsa classes (formerly Salsa Montuno) will incorporate our syllabus, structure and teaching techniques.  Lee Swift, Damon Pulsford and Vijay Patel will still be running their weekly Salsa classes, and monthly parties, but will now be fully fledged members of Abanico Salsa and will be running all of their Salsa activities as part of Abanico Salsa.

We would like to assure you that you can still expect the great classes and parties from all involved and we will be working hard to ensure that all of our Salsa activities continue to get better and better for you the dancers… we are aware that every teacher, class, venue & party has their own identity and we will preserve these whilst incorporating tried & tested teaching content and technique - as well as sharing resources and ideas across Abanico Salsa to ensure that we are bringing you the very best classes & parties for even more choice and variety.

All involved are very excited about these developments and are enthused by our future plans - as we hope you will be.  Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions, or would just like to give us some feedback.  We look forward to hearing from you… or seeing you on the dance floor..!

What does Montuno mean?

Montuno is a passage of improvisation in Cuban and salsa numbers, based on a two or three-chord pattern repeated ad-lib under the instrumental or vocal improvisations. The piano often maintains a repeated vamp of guajeos, a process known as montuneando.

Like our name, we provide people with the chance to learn the techniques of Leading and Following, to be able to Improvise during Freestyle dancing, and Express their Own Individualism, but most importantly at a pace that suits your abilities.
