About Us

Lee Swift

Lee Swift

I have been dancing Salsa since 2004. In March 2006, I was one of the founding partners in setting up Salsa-Evolution and helped out as a Dance Assistant until the August before starting to teaching.

I was caught up by Salsa, from the first time I saw it danced, that was it I had to learn. I now dance or teach 4 to 5 nights a week.

In January 2007 I qualified as a fully Insured Teacher and Member of the UKA and now teach 2 nights a week.

I enjoy teaching and sharing my passion for both the Dance and the Music with others. The focus of my Classes is to ensure people have fun, whilst always working on good technique. I also emphasise the importance of Leading and Following during the dance. As the main Teacher for Salsa Montuno-uk I am able to teach, Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, La Rueda and Cha Cha.

Through Salsa Montuno-Uk, we aim to bring some of the UK’s top Teachers / Performers to Bristol, running Workshops in Styling, Technique and Body Movement and alternative dance styles.

Vanessa Lloyd

Vanessa LloydI started dancing salsa in Vancouver in the fall of 2007. Although I had been addicted to swing dancing for years, I found the latin style challenging and fun, and salsa soon started to take over.  Making use of my following experience from swing dancing, I began dancing anything my partner could lead: LA style, Bachata, Cuban Salsa, Mambo, Merengue, Cumbia, Forró, Cha Cha and sometimes latin dances I didn’t even know the name of. I enjoy dancing a variety of different dances, which all help me to be a better salsa dancer. I credit my lindy hop experience for my follow technique, and my Jazz dance background for my spins.

A night out social dancing is what keeps me sane, and is a perfect way for me to unwind or get over a bad day. I can’t live without it! In addition to social dancing I have enjoyed teaching, choreography and performing. I have also helped run salsa and swing events in Canada. I look forward to bringing my knowledge and experience of both dancing and working behind the scenes to Bristol and Salsa Montuno-uk, while also learning more from the salsa communities and dancers here.

“I became totally addicted to salsa in 2006, and in the first few months went to regular classes three times a week

I have learnt a bit of Bachata, Cha Cha Cha and Rueda so there’s never a dull moment on the dancefloor. I like the variety of teaching styles and can adopt my style to the person I am dancing with and of course the music.

My typical week includes one night of ballroom, one salsa class and one Party night. I get a real buzz from dancing, and at Party nights will dance with as many ladies as possible – even if it means two at once!”

My ideal party night is lots of dancing so we’ve decided to get together to create the right atmosphere with a super dance floor and top quality soundtracks.

Steve Roberts

Steve RobertsI started dancing salsa almost two years ago.

I started so that I would have something to do on a Wednesday night, however it quickly became something to do on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night.  It's an addiction, but it's the best kind of addiction you could have. It's social, fun and a fantastic form of exercise. Plus not only has it improved, but pretty much created, my sense of rhythm and timing.

I attended my first party night when I was a beginner to salsa, and soon realised that it was where my confidence would grow. I met lots of different people and had a new found faith in my dancing ability. This is why I joined Salsa Montuno-uk, i want to give dancers the opportunity to experience salsa parties in the same brilliant way that I have. Our parties are a fun, comfortable environment for all dancers, whether they are beginners, or have been dancing for years. That is what I am most proud of.

I have been dancing salsa since 2004, and was a founding partner in salsabristol.co.uk which I left in January 2009. I work full time as IT consultant and when I am not dancing I look after the Salsa Montuno-UK website amongst other things.  I enjoy photography and can often be seen at various salsa events with a camera.

One of the places I have recently traveled to for Salsa is New York where I was able to practice dancing salsa on2 and had a number of lessons with some of the Worlds best dance schools including ,  Eddie & Maria Torres,   Nelson Flores, Yamuleé, and Santo Rico Dance.  Whilst in New York I was also able to dance at Salsa Nights like Iguana and Club Cache (Nothing like coming out of salsa club with Times Square directly in front of you).  Its definately a place to visit for salsa.

For myself , I believe that dancing should be about having fun, everyone should be able to practice, learn and enjoy.

I regularly dance 2 - 5 times a week in the south west.

Samantha Vernon

Samantha VernonI started dancing salsa about two years ago when a friend of mine invited me along. I have been dancing for eighteen years, but salsa was completely different to anything I had done before. To me this was a fantastic challenge, I soon realised that Salsa wasn't just different in technique, but also a lot more fun and sociable.  Soon I was hooked and was dancing three times a week. The more I danced, the more I enjoyed it, the more relaxed I became and the better I got.

My first salsa party was a daunting experience, but with the right people around me, I soon realised that the parties were where I would 'find my feet' and become more confident. Because of the parties I have become alot more comfortable as a dancer and have met some wonderful people.

I am part of the Salsa Montuno-uk team because I want to help people to experience salsa in all it's glory. The Salsa Montuno-uk parties are a comfortable environment for dancers of any level to improve their dancing and confidence, socialise and have a fantastic evening.
