Cubania Dance Company

CUBAnía Dance Company is a Bristol based dance company created in 2007 by Cuban dancer Alain Hernandez, with the goal of showcasing Cuban culture. Alain is known through out the country for his knowledge and expertise in Afro-Cuban dances, a reputation that has him in demand as a dance teacher throughout the UK. Sharing this knowledge with the group, CUBAnía Dance Company members have learnt a variety of both historic and modern Afro-Cuban dances including Orishas, Son, Cuban Salsa, Danzon, Rumba, ChaChaCha and Reggaeton. The groups debut performance was a two hour showcase entitled An Afro-Cuban Tale, which told the story of Cuba's history through dance. The show was highly successful with sold out audiences. The show was also performed with new choreography the following year at Bath Fringe Festival, garnering rave reviews from the public and media. CUBAnía has also performed at several festivals including Birmingham ArtsFest 2008 and every year at the Bristol Harbour Festival since 2007, and has also been invited to perform at salsa events throughout the country, from local events to events as far away as Cambridge.
