Vanessa Lloyd
I started dancing salsa in Vancouver in th e fall of 2007. Although I had been addicted to swing dancing for years, I found the latin style challenging and fun, and salsa soon started to take over. Making use of my following experience from swing dancing, I began dancing anything my partner could lead: LA style, Bachata, Cuban Salsa, Mambo, Merengue, Cumbia, Forró, Cha Cha and sometimes latin dances I didn’t even know the name of. I enjoy dancing a variety of different dances, which all help me to be a better salsa dancer. I credit my lindy hop experience for my follow technique, and my Jazz dance background for my spins.
A night out social dancing is what keeps me sane, and is a perfect way for me to unwind or get over a bad day. I can’t live without it! In addition to social dancing I have enjoyed teaching, choreography and performing. I have also helped run salsa and swing events in Canada. I look forward to bringing my knowledge and experience of both dancing and working behind the scenes to Bristol and Salsa Montuno-uk, while also learning more from the salsa communities and dancers here.
